WHY VOLUNTEER IN INDONESIA?
Indonesia is made up of 17,508 islands of which about 6,000 are inhabited. Our volunteer projects are based on the island of Bali, one of Indonesia's 33 provinces. Three decades ago, the Balinese economy was largely agriculture-based. Tourism is now the largest single industry. While Western tourists contribute to the robust economy of Bali, over 60% of the population continue to live in poverty. Developing World Connections' long term commitment is to help improve the community members' life options and to increase their self-sufficiency.
Volunteer Participants work to support locally driven projects that provide education and housing for orphaned and disadvantaged children and youth. Volunteers will assist in the construction of needed infrastructure projects such as dormitories and sustainable water and education facilities.
WHAT CAN I DO?
Volunteer abroad! Volunteers support whatever is of priority to our Host Partner, Widhya Asih Foundation. Activities will revolve around reconstruction of dormitories and latrines, and construction of two new accommodation buildings at an orphanage in East Bali. As a volunteer, you will work side by the children and staff of the orphanage. No special skills are required.

WHAT CAN I SEE?
Upon completion of the Volunteer Experience, we recommend volunteers sample Indonesia's rich culture by spending some time in Dempasar and Jakarta and the extraordinary Bunaken Marine National Park. Visit the island of Java's Borobudur, a Buddhist relic considered one of Southeast Asia’s marvels. Travel to Lombok, a popular destination for trekking and surfing.

Note: The Volunteer Experiences Schedule will be updated every two weeks. It is subject to change depending on flight arrangements and suitability for host communities.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
For one week, the Program Cost is $1,600 and for two weeks it’s $2,000. This includes the cost of in-country food, in-country ground transportation, accommodation, project costs and a substantial direct donation to the project. It’s 100% tax deductible. Airfare not included but may be eligible for a charitable tax receipt.
