WHY VOLUNTEER IN HAITI?
Even prior to the devastating earthquake in January 2010, Haiti has remained the least-developed country in the western hemisphere. Natural and man-made disasters, rapid population growth, and periods of economic decline have led to dramatic poverty for most of Haiti’s people. Hunger, food security and lack of access to resources and education are the main issues facing the poor. Volunteers will assist rebuilding and clean-up efforts as directed by DWC Host Partners on the ground in Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas. Volunteers will also assist in the construction of youth, education, and training centres in the interior of Haiti. Developing World Connections’ long term commitment is to help improve the community members’ life options and to increase their self-sufficiency.
WHAT CAN I DO?
DONATE or VOLUNTEER! Work with locals to rebuild community and critical community infrastructure. No special skills are required. Participants will support Port au Prince and surrounding communities in Haiti with our two Host Partners: Help Tammy Help Haiti, and Centre d'Inspiration Jeunesse.
We invite people who cannot give the gift of time to donate to Haitian rebuilding projects through Developing World Connections. Visit the Donate page or contact us for more ways to be of service.
